Noe Longoria, B.A.T. Webmaster

Q-Vo! And thanks for dropping by.

I receive so many emails from members and people who follow our Bay Area Tejanos (B.A.T.) events that I often find myself sharing a little about myself with those who take the time to ask. I've made many friends and have even discovered a family link with some of you. The Internet makes our world a smaller place, doesn't it?

That's me on the upper left. I spent 30 years as a San Jose (California) cop and finally retired in 2004. I'm still associated with the Department as a reservist, however most of my time is now dedicated to my family and business. Y lo que me pica la gana. It's a great way to live.

My association with Bay Area Tejanos started in 2005 after I discovered that they (Mario Sanchez, Robert Martinez, Susie Botello, and Chiquita) were throwing Tejano dances here in the San Francisco Bay Area and were in need of a webmaster. The rest is now history.

Like everyone else associated with B.A.T, I am a volunteer. I do what I do for the love of our music and culture. We are a unique bunch.. More Mexican than the Mexicans and more American than our European-American counterparts. Being able to navigate between both cultures is important these days.

In case you are wondering how a California cop becomes a Tejano music lover, the answer is easy.. I was born a Tejano. Growing up, all I heard on the radio and record player (remember those?) during family gatherings was Tejano. Ruben Vela, Tony de la Rosa, Ysidro Lopez, Conjunto Bernal, and Los Relampagos. Well, you get the idea.

I'm originally from the Rio Grande Valley, and part of the Longoria Clan that settled the area from Spain about 12 generations ago. I was born in a small town known as Los Indios, just outside of Harlingen. The majority of my immediate clan set anchor in Harlingen/San Benito. The rest are in McAllen/Pharr. The super old timers are still in the Santa Maria/Blue Town/La Feria areas. The Rio Grande Valley will always be home to me.

Dad was a farmer and brought us to San Jose, California in August 1958. I was only four years old then. And the area was mostly farms and orchards. These days, San Jose is known as the capital of Silicon Valley, a Mecca for the world's technology. And that explains how a farmer's son grows up to be a cop and webmaster.

Though Mom and Dad lived and worked the majority of their lives in California, it was always their dream to return to Texas. Both have since passed and I granted them their final wish. They are now resting together for all eternity at the Longoria Cemetery in Blue Town, Texas. Five generations of my family are also resting there.

I consider myself the sum of two parts. All that I am and all that I will ever be, I attribute to my parents. Thank you. Y que descansen en paz.

On a brighter note, I'm blessed to still be married to my first wife, Martha. I say blessed because divorce is a common casualty among cops. Our reward for her putting up with me all these years is our six (6) children and eight (8) grandchildren. Each of them is a special blessing from the man upstairs. Holidays are always a special celebration at my home. I don't know how my offspring will remember me, but one thing is for sure. They'll always think of me when they hear Tejano music. I've made sure of it.

The rest of me you can probably figure out from what I write on the website. Mostly, I'm a clown with an over active sense of humor. And I'll leave you with this final thought... If my humor ever offends you.. Too bad!  Haha

Que esperabas? That's how I keep young with a full head of black hair. (Eat your heart out Robert Martinez :)

Call or write if I can be of service to you.

Abrazos,
Noe Longoria
